TMM Survival Guide: FAQ
Below you'll find answers to some frequently asked questions about various aspects of TMM. If we didn't cover your question, please send us your questions via this form and we will do our best to address it as soon as possible!

How is TMM different from the other programs offered by the Faculty of Science?
TMM is a program designed for students who have completed two years of study in an undergraduate science program. TMM combines theoretical and practical courses with a focus on research opportunities with the Faculty's affiliated research institues at CHEO, The Ottawa Hospital and the University of Ottawa Heart Institute.
What are the interactions between professors and students like?
Our class sizes are small and student-centric. This allows students to easily approach professors, providing them with a chance to interact one-on-one about questions about the course material or potential research opportunities.

I’m afraid I might not be able to complete experiments in the lab, so how will I be successful in TMM?
It is not mandatory for students entering TMM to have previous research experience. TMM dedicates the first semester of your third year to acquire a variety of skills to help you become successful in the lab.

Are there shuttle buses that travel to main campus, RGN, Peter Morand and UOHS?
The University of Ottawa provides a shuttle bus that takes students to main campus, RGN, and Peter Morand. The full schedule can be found here. Are there lockers available for rent through TMMSA?
Yes! Please email inttmmsa@uottawa.ca to rent a locker. Payments are made to fintmmsa@uottawa.ca
How does one narrow down to 10 research projects for the rotation projects?
Thoroughly read through every proposal and make your first draft of selections. There will be a networking event with the professors prior to your final submission of projects where you are able to ask questions about the research project. If possible. visit the laboratory to grasp an understanding of the environment and location! When you are finalizing your top 10 projects, make sure you have 10 different projects - this is an opportunity to learn and understand your preferences in the lab. When you receive your selection, keep an open mind. You may end up enjoying a project you initially thought you wouldn't!
Are there any recommended study spots?
There are 3 study spots we recommend. First, 850 Peter Morand (PMD) where your main classes are located. This location includes hallway study spaces on the 1st and 2nd floor and 2 quiet study rooms. Second, 600 Peter Morand, where the TMM3009 labs are held. This location includes a 1st floor lobby with a well-lit study area and a kitchenette and the TMM lounge (located in the basement). Lastly, there is a library located in RGN. This location includes multiple individual cubicles and computer labs. You can also book a study room at the library here.
